Stephen Schlosser Obituary

Stephen Arnold Schlosser of Shelby, North Carolina passed away on October 24, 2024. He was 78 years old. Stephen was the son of Clayton and Ethel Schlosser of Skippack, PA. He was born on September 21st, 1946, in Norristown, Pennsylvania and grew up in the town of Skippack, PA. He had three children by Michele Schlosser of Kutztown, Pennsylvania: Stephen Edward Schlosser, 49, of Palm Coast, Florida, Michael Schlosser (deceased), and Tara Schlosser, 40, of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania.

Steve is survived by his children Stephen and Tara, their mother Michele, his siblings David Schlosser and wife Sue of Telford, PA, Lois Rupe and husband Larry of Shelby, NC, Joel Schlosser of Southern Pines, NC, as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Phillip Schlosser and his sister Leah Rambo.

‘Big Steve’ Schlosser loved to work on cars and loved hot rodding. He and his brothers worked in their father’s gas station / auto service shop in Skippack during their high school years.

Steve graduated from Collegeville Trappe High School in PA in 1964 and was drafted in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an airplane mechanic and was stationed in Millington, TN and Lakehurst, NJ from 1966-1970. He served on the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1970 as Petty Officer Third Class and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Steve pursued a career in auto mechanics and became an ASE certified Master Mechanic, the highest certification an auto mechanic can achieve. He had a true gift for all things mechanical and could fix anything.

After a successful 25-year career in auto mechanics and raising his family, he moved to North Carolina in 2006 to enjoy milder winters and be close to family. He entered retirement in 2008. He eventually settled in Shelby, NC. He shared a home with his brother Phillip and the two liked to go to car shows together and spent their Sundays having family dinners and watching NASCAR races on television with their sister and brother-in-law.

His hobbies included driving, working on classic cars, motorsports such as NHRA drag racing and NASCAR and listening to the radio. He enjoyed taking day trips to the mountains to see the natural beauty of the areas that he lived and enjoying a good meal at a local diner. His favorite treat was Neapolitan ice cream. He loved watching comedy sitcoms and Westerns on TV. He loved music ranging from Country & Western to Bluegrass, to talk radio, and Classic Rock.

A Memorial will be held soon for close family members.
