Sammy Joe McCurry, 81, passed away on Wednesday Aug, 21, 2024 while at Wendover Hospice. He was born to the late Willard Lee McCurry and Jeanette Philbeck McCurry. He is also predeceased by his wife, Ginny McCurry, brother, Howard McCurry (Yoko McCurry), sisters, Barbara Roberts, Helen Kirby, and Janice Horne (Dennis Horne).
Left to cherish his memory is a son Mark McCurry (Tonia) a brother, Dale McCurry (Sheila), grandchildren, Emily McCurry, Samantha McCurry Hollifield (Jesse ), as well as adopted family members, Peter, Michelle, Kate, and Emily Strickland.
Joe enjoyed playing and teaching golf his entire life. He coached numerous teams at church and the Shelby City Park in baseball, softball, basketball, and first tee. He supported family members in dance competitions, gymnastics, cheerleading, choir, band, orchestra, plays, homeschool events, graduations, and countless meals, parties, and family gatherings. He loved his little chihuahua "Pup." They were a great comfort to each other. Above all, Joe showed his love and devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by faithfully serving Him in teaching Sunday school, choir membership, tithing, Deacon, witnessing, visitation, the Gideon's, church planting, Jail Ministry, and countless years of serving others with tireless devotion. He loved people.
Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday August 28th at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev Artie Hubbard officiating. Visitation begins at 1:00 PM with services to follow at 2:00 PM.
