DALLAS - Roger Dale "RD" Hartzog went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, November 08, 2022 while at Wendover Heights of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Pershing Hartzog and Daisy Marie Mash Hartzog. He is also preceded by three brothers, Ray Alan Hartzog, Thomas Jerry Hartzog, Wade Avery Hartzog, and one great granddaughter Riley Grace Suttles.

Those left to mourn him are his wife Gloria DeWitt Hartzog of Dallas and his children, Angel Michelle Hartzog of Valdese, Robert DeWitt of Dallas, Crystal R Sides of Granite Falls, Tammy Regan of Dallas, Tonya D Suttles of Morganton, Jennifer D Hartzog of Hickory, and Dustin G Hartzog also of Hickory. He also had eight grandchildren Loretta Jo, Thomas, Bethany, Halia, Jacey and Alex. He had four great grandchildren Hezekiah, Payton, Gabriel, and Riley Hunter. He was like a dad to so, so many that came and went throughout the years Josh Edwards, Jamie Marie Ward, Rickey Dula, Tracey Simmons and Glenn Clark. He also leaves behind 3 brothers Wayne Hartzog, David Hartzog and Donald Hartzog and one sister Geneva Porter.

Roger was a member of Dallas Baptist Church and had faith that could move mountains. He loved being in the outdoors whether it was camping, fishing, or working in the yard. He was such a hard worker and everyone that knew him knows that he was just a good man. He was an auto mechanic for many years after being an auto mechanic instructor at CCC&TI. He worked as the manager for Baton Hardware, in Cajahs Mountain for a few years before finally retiring and enjoying life with Momma Gloria. They enjoyed their times camping and traveling to the beach and mountains. He is best remembered for just “piddling” and tinkering in the garage. He will be missed from the world but has already reunited with the loved ones gone on before him especially his first wife Loretta M Hartzog. He also served in the United States Army.
