Melvin Kenneth Morris

Shelby - Mr. Melvin Kenneth Morris, age 86 passed away at the Charles George Veterans Medical Center Hospice Unit in Asheville NC on Sunday May 20th, 2018 after an extended illness. He was a native of Stanley County NC and a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean era. Melvin was a son of the late Melvin B. Morris and Dorsie Poplin Morris. He was married on September 19, 1953 to the late Christine Harvell Morris and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Worth, Hazel, Banks, Don and Larry along with two brothers that died as infants Hoyle and Dolan.

Survived by three children, son, Michael K. Morris, daughter, Linda M. Tallent (Doc) and daughter, Charlene (Charlie) M. Greene (Ronnie) all of Shelby; grandson, James Tallent of Shelby and granddaughter, Holly T. Stone (Scott) of Fredricksburg, VA; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Doc Tallent, Stella Stone and Nathan Stone. 

Melvin was a graduate of Rickfied High School Class of 1949 and a graduate of NC State University Classes of 1954 and 1959. He served God as a member of the team that provided the jail house ministry to inmates at the Cleveland County Jail for 24 years and he attended the New Life Worship Center in Kings Mountain. Melvin liked to travel and took many trips on Christian Tours and Tony Tours. 

Funeral Services will be held at the graveside on Friday May 25th, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby with Pastor Jack Justice officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 - 7 PM at the funeral home.Full Military Honors by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will be at 7 P.M.Thursday at the funeral home.
