James William Powell

James William Powell, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 22, 2023 while at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cleveland County to the late  George and Ruth White Powell. He is also predeceased by brothers, Charlie Powell and Marvin Powell; sister, Caroline Barrett.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his sons, Barry Powell and wife, Amy Powell and James Powell, Jr. "JJ" and wife, Amanda Powell; grandchildren, Brooke and Ethan Greene, Victoria Powell, Jordyn Powell, Skylar and Haley Powell, Bryanna and Taylor Long, Hunter and Cheyanne Powell; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Greyson Greene, Riley and Reagan Powell, Carter, Ryker and Paisley Powell; brothers, Donald Powell and Bill Powell; sister, Betty Canipe.

James attended Bethel Baptist Church of Shelby. He Enjoyed watching NASCAR, the New York Yankees and the Kings Mountain Mountaineers football team. He enjoyed being outdoors. In his earlier years he worked at Safety Test and American Safety. For most of his life he was self-employed. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church, 606 South Dekalb Street, Shelby, NC 28150 with Dr. Tim Sims officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Interment will be immediately following the service.
