SHELBY - Daisy Lee Hamrick-Wylie, 85, of Shelby, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 14th, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Daisy was born in Mooresboro, NC on July 10th, 1936, to parents Buren and Grace Hamrick.
Daisy graduated from Cliffside High School in 1954 and went onto Shelby Hospital’s Nursing School, graduating in 1957. After graduation, she worked thirty years at Shelby OBGYN and twenty-four year at Shelby Women’s Clinic as an OBGYN nurse, totaling 54 years of service. In her free time, she also put in many hours volunteering with the Red Cross and local hospice centers. She had so much passion and love for helping others and continued to spread love and joy until her battle with Alzheimer’s slowed her down. Daisy retired from nursing in 2010.
She met the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Paul Wylie and married January 12th, 1958. They went on to have two kids, Chris, who precedes her in death, and Todd Wylie, 56. Todd has 3 children, Sarah (27), Anna (25), and Michael (21.) The three of her grandchildren were the absolute light of her life and she spent every second she could with them – going far and wide to be there for sporting events, graduations, birthdays, and more.
Daisy and Paul lived a beautiful love story and were admired by so many in the community. The two were heavily involved in First Baptist Church of Shelby, enjoyed bridge club, Friday nights at the Shelby Fish Camp, family beach trips, and spoiling their grandkids. She personally loved shopping, bird watching, flower gardens, Christmas time, and long walks on the beach looking for beautiful seashells. Her husband Paul taught her to work hard for what she wanted, and that is what she did. Retired or not, Daisy made time for her faith, the ones she loved, and getting her hair done, always.
Daisy is preceded in death by her son, Chris, her parents Buren and Grace Hamrick, brother Joe Hamrick, and two sisters Elsie Dixon and Louise Harris. She is survived by her husband, Paul, her son Todd, grandchildren Sarah, Anna, and Michael, two brothers Charles and Jimmy Hamrick, a sister Evelyn Walker, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, February 17th, 2022 beginning at 1:00 pm with the receiving of friends in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church Sanctuary downtown Shelby. The funeral will be held immediately after at 2:00 pm, and the procession will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family has partnered with Cleveland Community College’s Nursing Program to establish a scholarship fund in memorial of Daisy and her passion for nursing. Memorial gifts may be made via check or online to the CCC Foundation with the memo “in honor of Daisy Wylie.”
