GASTONIA - William Velus Spurling "Lefty", age 68, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at his residence with his daughter, Sherry Spurling by his side, Jamie, Wildman and Mike, two dearest friends, while taking care of him. He was a resident of Gaston County. He was a textile dolfer and mechanic his whole life.

He is predeceased by two sons, Benji Spurling and Colt Spurling; mother, Margaret Burton; father, Winslow Spurling, a Veteran from World War II with a purple Heart; a grandchild, Caylie McMahan; a brother, Darrell Spurling.

Survivors of William include, two daughters, Sherry Spurling and Dawn Spurling; grandchildren, Austin Spurling, Charles Howard, Christian Cash, Brandon McAbee, Shyla Whitworth, Kayden Whitworth and Aiden Jones; great-grandchildren, Korzane Wilkes, Zyne Wilkes, ZA'myah Judge, ZA'muney Judge and JoJo Boone; nieces and nephews, Donnie, Jolene, Jason Spurling and kids, Dusty, Amanda Spurling and kids.
