Betty Sue (Canipe) Laughlin

SHELBY - Betty Sue Canipe Laughlin, age 82, passed away at Hospice at Wendover on Friday, October 11, 2019. Betty is native of Cleveland County and will always be remembered as a wonderful and loving Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. 

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband of 51 years, Farrell Laughlin; son, Scott Chapman (Debbie); four grandchildren, Braydan Chapman (Samantha),Doug Chapman (Cassie), Michael Chapman Jr. (Ashley) and Suzanne Merck (David); eleven great-grandchildren, Holden Chapman, Abbie Chapman, Gage Chapman, Chase Chapman, Cenlae McDaniel, Mickeeley Salamanca, Madison Gullatte, Meredith Chapman, Taylor McCracken, and Cheyanne Williams, Burgan Merck: four great-great-grandchildren, Emerson Williams, Rylee Salamanca, Raylan Gullatte and Kiser Gullatte.

She is predeceased by her parents, Claude Canipe and Lucy Smith Canipe; two sons, Roger Dean Chapman and Michael Ray Chapman, Sr.; five brothers, Claude Canipe, Jr., Gene Canipe, Clyde Canipe, Fred Canipe and Bud Canipe; four sisters, Clarene Pearson, Ruby Melton, Carol Canipe, Margaret Nanney.

She worked at Cleveland Mills as an Inspector and retired after 33 years of service. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and spending quality time with her family.

Funeral Services are scheduled Sunday, October 13, 2019, 4:30 P.M. at Hudson Memorial Baptist Church, 762 Warlick Road, Lawndale, North Carolina 28090 with Rev. Jerry Hudson officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial in the Church Cemetery following the service.
