Hershel Luther Slaughter

FOREST CITY - Hershel Luther Slaughter passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his residence in Fair Haven, Forest City, NC. He was born to the late V.J. and Connie Canipe Slaughter on December 13, 1941. He is also predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Slaughter; a son, Henry Slaughter and a daughter, Karen Slaughter.

Hershel leaves behind to cherish his memories his four daughters, Ginger Ledbetter, Rachel Mathis (Robert), Lillian Slaughter and Cathy Smith (Phil); ten grandchildren, Todd, David, Angel, Amanda, Amy and Toby Ledbetter, Jamie, Joey and Jon Clayton and Caleb Mathis; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Zoey Winters.

Hershel enjoyed working as an auto mechanic in an auto repair shop. He enjoyed working on computers and could tear them apart and put them back together again without any problems. He will always have a special place in his family and friends' hearts and he will be truly missed by all of those that knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, 500 Gray Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with the Rev. James Lee Powell officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Rachel and Robert Mathis.
