Helen Elizabeth (Kirtley) Martin

GAFFNEY - Helen Elizabeth Martin, 87, passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Peachtree Centre, Gaffney, SC. Helen was born to the late Kessler and Edith Ehret Kirtley on January 26, 1929 in Nelson County, Kentucky.  She is also predeceased by her first husband, John J. O'Connor and her second husband, Evangelist Thomas Walter Martin.

Helen went to college to become an Elementary School Teacher. She taught prayer, kindness, love and service through the Catholic Education at St. Martin Catholic school in Louisville, KY. She was intelligent, witty, pretty in her earlier days and deserves honor at the end of her life. She loved playing the piano, reading, writing and traveling the country. She was a member of Rainbow Temple of Kings Mountain. 

Helen is survived by one son, Michael John O'Connor of Lexington, KY; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous brothers and sisters in Christ; a friend in Tampa, Florida and her beloved cat "Toodie" that went on before her.

A 3:00 p.m. memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Rainbow Temple, 816 2nd Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086 with Rev. Eddie Russell officiating. A one hour visitation from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. will be held prior to the service.
