Dorothy Mildred (Roberts) Beam

SHELBY - Dorothy "Dot" Roberts Beam, 83, of Shelby, NC passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Testa Family Hospice House in Kings Mountain. She was born to the late Ben Logan and Katherine Borders Roberts of  Cleveland County, NC. She is also predeceased by brothers and sisters,Josh Roberts, John Logan Roberts, Mary Bridges, Nell Carroll, George Roberts, Betty Gailmore, Eva (Sis) Harrill and Ed Roberts. 

Dot leaves behind one daughter, Donna Beam Hodge, and her husband Robert Hodge, four grandchildren, Robbie Hodge, wife Heather Hodge, Katie Hodge McSwain, husband Mark McSwain, Ashley Hodge Beil, husband Derrick Beil, and Jon Michael Hodge, two great-grandsons, Beckham Parker McSwain and Ledger Bennett McSwain, along with one brother Jerry Roberts. 

Dot retired from Cleveland Regional Hospital where she worked for 35 years.  She will be remembered as a strong independent woman, who loved to dance, play cards and spend time with her family. In the words of her granddaughter Katie,  "she was a bit of a firecracker and she played a huge part in giving me some of that spark".   Her granddaughter Ashley remembers her "Nannie" dancing at her wedding and will cherish that moment forever.  

Dot was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She left us wishing for five more minutes and although we are so sad that she is gone now, we are all extremely grateful of all the times we were able to spend with her and so incredibly lucky to have had her in our lives for as long as we did. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
